National Broadcast Orchestra Reports In

Earlier this week, from its new home at the Telus Studio Theatre within the University of British Columbia’s Chan Centre, the National Broadcast Orchestra announced details of its first projects since the group was formed to replace the disbanded CBC Radio Orchestra.

According to music director Alain Trudel, the National Broadcast Orchestra’s projects will include a diverse mix of live performances, radio broadcasts, internet broadcasts, and other specialized recording projects. This week, the orchestra is filming a high definition video project, and performing the same repertoire for a concert at Artspring on Salt Spring Island.

The formal debut of the National Broadcast Orchestra at home in Vancouver’s Chan Centre will take place January 8, 2010. This performance will be recorded live for broadcast on CBC Radio 2, with the premiere of a CBC-commissioned work by Michael Oesterle entitled The Sparrow’s Ledger. Soloists on the progam include trumpeter Jens Lindemann (in new works by Alain Trudel and Allan Gilliland) and Anton Kuerti (in a performance of Beethoven‘s Concerto No. 0, compiled from sketches by Beethoven and orchestrated by Kuerti).

The January 8 performance will be a special fundraising gala for the National Broadcast Orchestra. Ticket prices and on-sale date will be announced October 1.
