The Manitoba Chamber Orchestra will be formally launching its latest CD tomorrow, February 28, with a friendly event at Stella’s Cafe in the Buhler Centre. The CD, on the Orange Mountain Music label, is devoted to the music of Philip Glass, and features his Symphony No. 3 and music from the film The Hours. Anne Manson conducts, and Michael Riesman is the featured pianist.

A number of members and friends of Orchestras Canada were included in the list of nominees for the 2013 Juno Awards. Along with many favourite soloists and chamber ensembles, we’d like to highlight the nominations of the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra (with classical concert accordionist Antonio Peruch and an array of Canadian works), Vancouver Symphony Orchestra (music of former VSO resident composer Jeffrey Ryan, conducted by VSO music director Bramwell Tovey); and the two nominations for Tafelmusik, for both The Galileo Project and Handel’s Messiah. As well, heartfelt congratulations to the nominees in the Classical Composition of the Year category: Alexina Louie, Denis Gougeon, Howard Shore, Vivian Fung, and R. Murray Schafer.
