Nominations for the Governor General’s Performing Arts Awards for 2012 are being accepted from now until September 23, 2011. The process is simple and you can do it online. A letter of recommendation and a short biography of the nominee are all that are required for your favourite Canadian performing artist to be in the running.For complete details, visit

The Canada Council for the Arts has announced a September 30 deadline for the 2011 John Hobday Awards in Arts Management. The Awards, named after a past director of the Canada Council (and a long-time friend to Canadian orchestras), are awarded annually to experienced managers and  future leaders in arts management, in the categories of Professional Development and Renewal; and Mentorship. 2010 John Hobday Awards
The Canada Council has announced the deadline for the 2010 John Hobday Awards in Arts Management, awards created to recognize excellence and accomplishment in arts management, contribute to the professional development and revitalization of experienced managers, and contribute to the transfer of knowledge and experience from established and mid-career managers to the next generation. As many as two awards, worth as much as $10,000 each, will be awarded – one for Professional Development and Renewal, and a second for Mentorship.

Competition for Emerging Composers
The National Broadcast Orchestra (NBO) has announced details of a competition for Canadian composers 35 and younger as of October 15. Candidates are to submit chamber orchestra works of eight to ten minutes in duration; each work will be reviewed by a national panel of composers chaired by NBO artistic director Alain Trudel, and the prize winning composition will be featured on the NBO’s November tour program, to be recorded for broadcast on CBC Radio Two.
