JOB POSTING: Orchestra Operations Manager, Full-time

For over 70 years, Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony has brought joy, inspiration and a sense of belonging to the Waterloo Region through our various concert series, education and community programs initiatives. We are looking for an energetic, detail- oriented person who will foster an environment where artists and musicians can perform at their highest level.

The Orchestra Operations Manager reports to the Director of Operations and works, as part of a team, to manage the production of all KWS concerts. The concert season runs from September to May and requires regular evening and weekend work in addition to office hours.

• Ensures that all concerts are produced at a high level of excellence
• Works closely with KWS staff, stage crew, and hall management staff to produce concerts and communicate accurate concert information to all, using established procedures
• Manages overall production budget, monitors expenses, and completes month-end close for all production accounts
• Reviews and fulfills the requirements of all approved production riders and production requests
• Participates in the season planning process as required
• Participates in the design and execution of the KWS Entry Points Plan each season, taking a proactive role in video capture and digital projects
• Manages the work of the Operations Assistant and other part-time stagehands
• Coordinates all equipment and percussion rentals and repairs
• Prepares schedules as needed (piano tuner, Operations Assistant, etc)
• Manages production and logistics for all off-site orchestra concerts
• Drives orchestra truck on occasion, as necessary
• Acts as first point of contact for visiting artists and conductors once they arrive in KW, ensuring their needs are met during their stay
• Ensures that all guest artist travel, accommodations, and travel are provided according to artist contracts
• Maintains a working knowledge of the Collective Agreement
• Maintains a positive working relationship with the Orchestra
• Manager on duty for rehearsals and concerts as assigned
• Additional related duties as assigned

• Orchestral concert production or related orchestral experience is a requirement
• University music degree or equivalent is required
• Excellent organizational, planning and time management skills, with demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and flexibility in meeting shifting demands and priorities
• Excellent problem solving skills
• A demonstrated ability to manage multi-media technologies
• Superior written communication skills
• Exceptional inter-personal skills and the ability to interact comfortably, professionally and effectively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders
• Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
• Must be able to work some evenings and weekends as assigned during the concert season
• Must be able to do some significant lifting and moving of equipment
• Must possess a valid driver’s license
