Orchestras Canada (OC) is the national membership association for Canadian orchestras. Our mission is to serve as the united national voice of the Canadian orchestral community: furthering, enriching and celebrating the work of Canadian orchestras through programs and services in both official languages.
OC’s nominating committee is seeking to fill at least two vacancies on our Board of Directors starting in May 2012. Would you, or someone you know who believes in the vital role that orchestras play in the Canadian cultural milieu, like to play a key volunteer role with our national association? If so, consider submitting a nomination.
We are particularly interested in recruiting people with particular skills or training in communications or marketing. As well, the overall membership of the Board is intended to reflect the artistic, geographic and linguistic diversity of Canadian orchestras.
First consideration will be given to nominations received by May 13, 2012. Nominees elected to the Board by the membership will be invited to serve a three-year term, covering fiscal years 2012-13 to 2014-15. The election will take place at OC’s Annual General Meeting, May 28, 2012 in Montréal, Québec.
Eligibility:
To be eligible for nomination to the OC board, the individual must be
• Associated with a member orchestra (as a staff member, musician, conductor, director or volunteer) OR an individual member of Orchestras Canada;
• Over the age of 18.
Duties:
Directors are expected to:
• Attend meetings regularly. The Board of Directors meets at least two times annually, with additional teleconferences scheduled as required. Board members are expected to attend as many meetings as possible, and to participate actively on committees and task forces on which they are asked to serve.
• Make an annual charitable gift to Orchestras Canada.
• Serve as a representative and an advocate of Orchestras Canada, and of Canadian orchestras in general.
• Bring insight, expertise, abilities and energy to the tasks of identifying and solving truly important issues affecting the viability and health of Orchestras Canada and Canadian orchestras.
Selection Criteria:

• The Nominating Committee also strives to find the right balance of skills among new and continuing members of the Board of Directors.
