Three cheers from coast to coast for Orchestras Canada’s indefatigable statistician, C. Stephen Smith! He has completed work on this year’s magnum opus, OC’s annual Comparative Report, preparing not only a detailed report (sent earlier this month to key contacts at all 68 participating orchestras), but also summary reports (by budget size and region), available to all. These summary reports have just been published on Orchestras Canada’s website, and you can link to them here.
What’s the point? Well, in our view, the Summary Reports are the quickest and easiest way to benchmark your own orchestra’s performance. While each and every Canadian orchestra has evolved in response to its unique community context, a better understanding of how your orchestra compares to other orchestras in your region or budget category can be invaluable. Check it out!
