The Orchestre des jeunes du Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean is giving a pair of performances at the Place du Saguenay on February 24, part of the fourth annual Faites de la musique event, a week-long festival celebrating the benefits of music, music-making, and music teaching in the region. Faites de la musique is headed by the regional culture council, and the spokespeople for 2012-13 are none other than the families of David Ellis and Nathalie Camus, members of the Quatuor Alcan, core ensemble of the Orchestre symphonique du Saguenay—Lac-St-Jean! The Kawartha Youth Orchestra is presenting a pair of concerts at Peterborough’s Market Hall Performing Arts Theatre Sunday, February 24 and Monday, February 25 – the first as part of their regular concert series, and the second – a free daytime, weekday concert – designed specifically for aspiring music students, who will get the chance to perform with and conduct the KYO. The concerts will be led by KYO music director Michael Newnham and RBC Emerging Artist Michael Berec. The repertoire includes music by Beethoven and Brahms. For the Sunday concert, the orchestra is offering “tweet seats” for a modest $5! (The hashtag is #kyolive, in case you’re wondering). For more information, please visit thekyo.org.
