Youth Orchestra of the Americas
The Youth Orchestra of the Americas will be performing in the province of Quebec in the coming days, with performances tonight and tomorrow night, July 31 and August 1, at Domaine Forget (led by Benjamin Zander and Jean-Pascal Hamelin), at Quebec’s Palais Montcalm on August 3 (under the leadership of Carlos Miguel Prieto), and at the Festival de Knowlton on August 4 (with Maestro Prieto). The orchestra, founded in 2001, is made up of performers between the ages of 18 and 28 from 24 different countries. Since its initial tour in 2002, the orchestra has given over 100 performances in the Americas and Europe. Its mission is simple yet inspiring: to bring together energetic, talented musicians to pursue excellence and celebrate cultural diversity as a catalyst for social change

August is also a busy month for the OSL. The orchestra will be presenting a concert of music for brass and percussion at Sainte-Rose-de-Lima Church at 4 p.m. on August 9 (led by music director Alain Trudel), and will also be accompanying an abridged version of Verdi’s La Traviata on August 16 at 7:30 p.m., as part of Montreal’s Italian Week. The production will feature an Italian and Canadian cast, headed up by Gino Quilico in the role of Giorgio Germonte. Gianluca Martinenghi will lead the OSL and cast in this production.
