Randy Barnard, General Manager of CBC Records, will be leaving the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation as of July 31, after 34 years with the CBC. CBC has been in touch with Orchestras Canada to advise that, “although Randy will be leaving, and that the position of General Manager will change, the business of CBC Records as a label will certainly continue. New projects will continue to be released as will the exploitation of back catalogue recordings as licensed, physical and digital content. The management of CBC Records will continue under the banner of CBC Merchandising and Tom Metuzals will take primary responsibility for the business.”
The Calgary Philharmonic has announced that its Assistant Concertmaster, Donovan Seidle, has been appointed Associate Music Director of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games. Mr. Seidle will take a sabbatical from the CPO for the 2009/2010 season to undertake this role, working under the direction of Music Director David Pierce.
Christopher Wilkinson has stepped down as Personnel and Production Manager of Symphony Nova Scotia, effective August 8, 2009. Described as “a central part of the administrative team for most of the last 22 years as orchestra librarian, personnel manager, and production manager”, he will continue to serve as the orchestra’s Principal Second Violin.
The Kawartha Youth Orchestra has recently announced the appointment of Administrative Coordinator, Tori Owen, with the support of a grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation. Ms. Owen is charged with the tasks of helping the KYO recruit more young performers, increase audiences and recruit more volunteers. Her previous experience encompasses many years as a professional musician as well as an arts administrator with a client roster that includes Market Hall, 4th Line Theatre and the Peterborough Symphony Orchestra.
