We’ve got a pair of recommendations this week.

The League of American Orchestras conference wrapped up late last week, and the League has posted a number of resources of potential interest to Canadian orchestra people on its site here.

You can find presentations on:
• Dealing with endowment funds that have dropped below the value of their original contributions;
• Protecting musicians’ hearing;
• Attracting and retaining new audiences (a follow-up on last year’s presentation on “audience churn”)
• How the physical environment of the concert hall can enhance the audience experience.

A number of Canadians attended the League’s conference this year, and we understand that Orchestras Canada’s list servs will also be used as a forum for sharing insights gleaned from the League conference.  Watch your email inbox!

After over a year of research and consultation, the Canada Revenue Agency has posted new guidance on fundraising for registered charities.  In our view, it’s absolutely vital reading for anyone involved in the solicitation of funds for charitable purposes in Canada, and we commend it to you highly.  You can find it here:
